Metering and Monitoring
Sub‐metering is now a statutory requirement for buildings in the UK as explained in the CIBSE TM39 recommendations and Part L of the building regulations.
By simply recording and benchmarking energy consumption from installed sub-meters it is possible to identify areas of energy loss (I.E Lighting left on in unoccupied hours) and challenge employees to assist in reducing wastage.
Research has shown that benchmarking and targeting can herald up to 15% savings in energy.
A variety of solutions could be deployed depending on the mains installation. These could range from individual meters installed to certain supplies right through to a fully automated BMS style metering and monitoring station which can generate reports and high areas and times of high consumption. Display panels could be installed within reception and areas of high throughput to drive home the need to save energy.
